silent modem speaker

Since installing XP my modem has been silent. Once it
logged on without me knowing. I have limited time OnLine;
and I have screen magnification for poor vision, so I
don't see all the screen at once.
I want the speaker working! I have the setting in Control
Panel MODEM, set to ON.

Who do you get your internet thru?? Sometimes you have
to go thru the options provided by your provider to
adjust modem sound. Wayne B.
