My internal modem (under winxp) does not respond to the volume settings and
is always silent.

Same compuer and same modem (under win98) works fine.

Any thoughts on how to get the modem speaker working under winxp?

Control Panel|MODEMS|MODEM tab|PROPERTIES|ADVANCED TAB
In the Extra Settings box type "L2" (no quotes) and see what that does.

Tried that before, no effect.
