Silencing Modem

Have just installed WindowsXP and can not get it to
silence the PC speaker when dialing out to ISP. Have set
the modem volume to '0' using device manager and also
unchecked modem speaker,in modem cofiguration in ATT
service status dialog box. Yet the dial tones can still
be heard. Did I miss some step??

Yes, there is one more step, which I found through the generosity of someone
on this forum:

Start
Control Panel
Phone and Modem
Properties
Advanced tab
Extra initialization commands:
m0 (that's emm-zero)
OK
OK

Good bye to all that #*&**%!!! noise.

Don't know whether this will work but right click on your connection and go
into properties, on the general page click on the configure button under the
name of your modem and check if you have a tick in the modem speaker box.
