signon:password no longer working

On my dedicated win2000 server, a subweb using front page requires a signon
dialogue. I provided my customer with a URL shortcut in the format
username:password@url to make the signon quicker, but now it no longer works
and she has to used the standard dialogue pop-up box.

Does anybody have a clue why this has happened or how I can restore the use
of the shortcut?

The last Internet Explorer update removed the ability to sign on via a url
due to security issues.
