When I turn on my computer, an older version of the sign on comes up. It has
a pull down window that has things like 'shut down', 'hibernate', ...etc.
Before it had always been my account picture with my name and password, like
XP is supposed to be. HELP! :)

Open Control Panel, navigate to User Accounts.
In the User Accounts panel, click the arrow that says "Change the way users
log on or off"

Make sure "Use the Welcome Screen" is turned on.

Go to Control Panel and double click User Accounts.
Click on "Change the way users log on or off".
Put a check mark in the box next to "Use the Welcome screen".
You can also check "Use Fast User Switching" if you plan on
using this feature.
Hit the Apply Options button.
Close User Accounts.
Restart your computer to see if you get the desired results.

Good luck
