I am having trouble signing into msnews.microsoft.com from the toolbar
button and the menu selection under tools.

If I try to send a message (including this one) I get "Not Responding" . I
have to then close Windows Mail from the Task Manager, reopen Windows Mail
and try to send again.

Is there some reason the Windows Mail does this even though I have given it
my Windows Live ID and password?

Any help is appreciated
 
Which toolbar button?
I don't "sign in" to that news server and it works fine for me.
Where did you put in your Windows Live ID?
Perhaps you are talking about the optional 'Communities' feature.
Go to Tools, Options, uncheck "Use newsgroup message rating features."
Most people don't use that feature because it is very buggy.
