Sign in on Windows XP bootup

My wife has a Windows XP computer on which she is the only user. In the
past, it booted up completely, ending the bootup process by showing the
desktop icons. However, recently, it stops the bootup process at her user
name (name of the computer?) and asks her to click on that before
proceeding. Is there a way to turn this off so the computer returns to the
full bootup sequence?

Thanks for any help.

WindowsXP Power Toys, TweakUI has an option to set auto logon. It's
available free from the Microsoft web site.

There's undoubtedly other ways, but this is the only one I'm familiar with.

That may be the result of installing the Windows Update for 'Net
framework', which adds an extra account for its own purposes. Go to
Start - Run and run the line
control userpasswords2
and in that uncheck the box 'Users must give a Username. . .' and click
Apply. You will be asked to enter her username, and any password that
is needed (though it sounds as if that is blank, in which case leave it
so)
