sig file questions

1. Is the sig file simply added to with each update, or is the entire sig
database downloaded each time?

2. Any idea what file contains the sig database?

I believe the files are replaced with each update, but don't know that for
sure. The content left in place will have an identical MD5 hash to a new
download, so the result is the same, whichever way it works.
