Hi Chris
Apparently I'm missing something here. My computer is only a few weeks old (a Dell 4600 with nVidia FX 5200 graphics card). Even so I downloaded ther latest drivers from nVidia. When I try to add the controller I still get the pop up window "Your gameport or gameport drivers are not properly configured. Please consult Device Manager.". When I go into Device Manager I can't even find the gameport

It should work just fine, IF your game port hardware has the latest softwar
installed for it. If it is on a sound card, make sure you download an
install the latest drivers from the manufacturer. If the port i
motherboard-based, figure out the brand of your motherboard and get th
updates from that manufacturer
Then, you can plug in the controller in and do the selection steps yo
mentioned. Installing the software won't worked because it contains a
unsupported *.vxd format, however Windows XP will install the prope
drivers. You can no longer create "profiles" in Control Panel, but can d
so from within games which have the option

I read the recent posts giving ideas about how to get the Sidewinder whee
with Windows 98 software to work in XP and I'm still stumped. Could someon
give me a step by step? When I go into Control Panel and then gam
controllers and try to add the MS SW I get a pop up window that says "You
Gameport or Gameport drivers are not properly configured. Please consul
Device Manager.". Well I guess that makes sense since when I try to instal
the 3.x software I get another pop up window that says "Sidewinder Gam
Devices software 3.x install drivers that are incompatible with thi
version. COntact MS". This is the gameport version which I can't even fin
in Device Manager and I wouldn't know what to do if I did. Am I correctl
interpreting the posts that say the Sidewinder 98 (with gameport hookup
should work in XP? If so please guide me through the entire process. Than
you very much
