I'm not sure how it happened or where it came from, but yesterday a blue
side bar began appearing on the left hand side of my desktop (running the
entire height of the screen), and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it.

The content of the bar changes depending on what window I am currently in.
When I only have the desktop showing it has expandable categories:

Folder Tasks
Make a new folder
Other Places
My Documents
My Network Places

Details
Desktop

Any ideas? Is this a virus I've contracted somehow? I've never heard of
such a "feature" before.

Please help!

Regards,
Rick Friedline

Hi Rick,

This comes about from making changes in Display Settings. Easy fix:

Remove Common Tasks from the Desktop (Line 15)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Thanks, Kelly! Worked like a charm :-) Although I still don't know what I
did to get the sidebar in the first place ...

Great website, BTW!!
