Sidebar Help

Randomly today my sidebar just went away and I've been trying to get it back
for awhile now. I've shutdown my computer 6 or 7 times now and it hasnt
helped. Usually if it goes away you can just click on the icon in the taskbar
but it's gone too. If I try to go into the Start Menu and open it, it just
sits there. Help! Thats my favorite feature in Vista!

Hi, hrose.

Start | All Programs | Accessories | Windows Sidebar

Does that work for you?

If not, please tell us, keystroke by keystroke, exactly how you try to turn
it on - and exactly what you see.

No, that doesnt work. I have it set to "Start Sidebar when Windows starts" so
usually I dont have to do anything. All I see is the Windows Sidebar in the
Accessories menu but when I click on it nothing happens. I dont even get an
hour glass.

Hi, hrose.

When you right-click on Windows Sidebar in the menu, then click Properties,
what do you see in the "Target" box? Mine says:
"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe"

If yours says the same thing, then paste that whole string into Start's
Search Box and press Enter. Let us know what happens.

If that doesn't work, paste this into Windows Explorer:
C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar

See if sidebar.exe shows up in this listing. If not, it must have been
deleted somehow and we'll need to dig deeper. You may need to run the
System File Checker (SFC /scannow) to have it scan your operating system
files and replace any missing or damaged ones from the on-drive cache. (You
may have time for a cup of coffee while SFC runs.)
