Sidebar gradient?

How do I get rid of that crazy gradient on the Sidebar?

(I thought my new Dell 24" wide screen monitor was defective! And then
my 16 year old son said "Dad, you're such a 'newb'")

The gradient is only there when you don't set the Sidebar as "on top" -
rightclick it and hit Properties to change that.
