shutting down

When I try to shut down the turn off computer is high
lighted and it will not turn off computer. How do I get to
shut my computer down.
 
what is it doing? does it act like its about to shut down? does the signing
off screen come up? what kind of computer is it? more info please.

I am running windows xp when you go to the start button
and press turn off computer. You get the three icons Stand
by Turn off and Restart the stand by icon is highlighted
it wont let me shut down it just reboots back on again. 10
gig hard drive 1.1 ghz AMD Athlon Processor and 384mb RAM.

How are your power options configured in the control
panel? Or right click on desktop then click properties
then the screensaver tab and then the power button down
the bottom. Configure it any way you want. keep smiling.
