shutting down monitor

D

Dave

I set my monitor to power off after 10 minutes
I set my screensaver to come off after 5 minutes
I also set my screensaver so that the "welcome page"
comes back on (so you have to enter a password- multiple
users).

The problem is that the monitor does not power off after
10 mintues. Is that because the screensaver function is
on? The most important thing is to make sure that you
have to enter a password.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think it has anything to do with the screensaver. It may have
something to do with whether or not your monitor supports the function,
especially if you install special drivers for the monitor in which case you
might need to check the manufacturer's website for updates.

It might be a function of your graphics card drivers so you might want to
check the card manufacturer's website for updated drivers.

That said, turning off the monitor is based on inactivity. There might be
something running in the background on your system, even when the system is
idle enough for the screensaver to appear that is preventing the monitor
shutdown from occurring.

As to the welcome page, you've said you set that and you gave no indication
as to whether or not that function is working so I can only assume that it
is.

I am running Widows XP home addition.
I am using a Asus Ge Force4 v9180 Magic card.
I did not install any drivers and I am using XP "plug and
Play" default.

I did send an email to the monitor people to see what
they say. Also, I will try to find out if anything else
is running in the background (I do not know how to do
that but will try to find out). Again thank you for your
help.

You're welcome.

If you have an online connection, those are usually always on connections
and the system might be reading that as activity and that might prevent the
system from turning off the monitor.

Anything else that monitors in the background, a firewall, antivirus, things
that check for updates or e-mail periodically, any or all of these might be
the culprit.
