Screensaver problem on XP (SP2)

Hi! This is my first posting so be a little patient with me-

I am running my Dell notebook on Windows XP (SP2). Withing the past
6-8 weeks I noticed that my homepage automatically interupts my
screensaver on a regular interval, The screensaver is set to some on
after 10 minutes of inactivity but it is replaced by the home page
after about 3 minutes. The screensaver then reappears after about 15
minutes, displays for about 3 minutes, then the homepage reappears
again. This cycle repeats until I turn off the computer.
For some reason I associate the onset of this issue with an update of
hp softwear for my multi-function printer. Is this possible?

I'd like to fix this problem myself but I'm not a computer whiz, so
any solutions have to be fairly jargon-free.

Comcast cycles the ads on their home page. It sounds like the little
refresh needed to display the new ad content is enough to disrupt your
screensaver. Nothing on your end to fix if that's the case. Instead, try a
different home page.

If you prefer the Comcast home page, try the Express version of their home
page. It might not be as disruptive as the one with all the fancy extras.

NOTE: I have Comcast and use the more fancy home page. I do not see the
same disruption but this could be due to a different power settings. For
example, I don't use screensavers for more than 5 minutes, instead I let
the monitor go into standby.

Thanks, Sharon. I should have mentioned that I use CNN.com as my
homepage. I'll try using the stand-by mode but I'm concerned that
after three years of use, suddenly I having problems.

You're welcome. It could still be "flash ads" or something else that's
changed on CNN that is disrupting your power savings.

Or if you updated any display related drivers recently or installed new
software that has modules that run in the background, the cause may be due
to subtle change introduced by those additions.
