Shutting down for no reason

My computer shuts down at random - I can not see any definite pattern as to
why it shuts down. When it does, it automatically starts back up again on
its own. I have not yet paid close attention to the window that pops up
after restart, but it is one of those "would you like to send an error
report" messages. The only possiblly consistent factor is that I might be
online, using Internet Explorer every time, but I am not positive of that
fact. I seem to remember this happening in the middle of writting a word
document, at which time I probably was not also using Internet Explorer. If
anyone can suggest how I might troubleshoot this recurring problem I would
really like to make it stop, and I hope that it does not get worse.

Knowing nothing about your computer (brand, model, age, particulars), I can
offer only that random shut downs are usually caused from something
overheating or a faulty power supply. First off, make sure all fans are
running, filters (if equipped) are clean and flowing freely. If your system
is new enough to have temp sensors in place, dl'd something like Everest and
keep an eye on the temps. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html .
This site has the last free edition, all the new ones are $$.
Get this discontinued version while you can. A Google search for "XP random
shut downs", or similar, will give you other avenues to look into, if the
above does not help.
