shutdown windows power off

I have just installed XP profesional n a laptop DIGITAL
VP735 which used to turn off with win 2000 when was
asked to do so by the sw.
With the XP windows the message I get is that now the pc
is ready to be turned off.. and to d so I need to take
the battery out.
That should not happen the SW should turn off the unit
CAN ANYONE HELP??

Control Panel/Power Options, see if APM needs to be enabled.

This is one of those areas that are customized by the h/w
manufacturers. You might look for a new power controls
driver.
