Shutdown Window

My WinXP desktop has just started showing a window during the shutdown
process. The window says explorer.exe is being shutdown. Press end to
shutdown immediately, etc. This has either just started or I have
never noticed it before. Why is this window displayed during shut down
and is normal or is there something that needs to be fixed?

Thanks, jimbo

I get that from time to time. It just means that Explorer was, perhaps, in
the process of filing adjustments or something like that. If you wait, the
pop-up will go away of its own accord. If you choose "Close Now" you MAY
cause Explorer to terminate what it was doing and cause a larger problem. If
it keeps occuring on a regular basis then further investigation may be in
order. It simply could be that when you chose to shutdown XP, Explorer has
quite a few housekeeping chores and the shutdown command gets impatient with
it.
