Shutdown Suddenly Problem

Hi; My Home Edition of Xp was running flawless no matter what the
last year until yesterday. All of a suddent he machine will not not
shutdown when I clcik to choose it on the start menu. Also I cannot
bring up the task manager to clear anything and once even the mouse
and all froze until I cold rebooted. I downloaded nothing new as in
programs so what should I look for. A week ago a new screensaver was
installed but I doubt that would do it. Nick

Screensavers are a common method of getting virus'.

I ran virus check on whole drive and contents and nothing. Virus sigs
are from today. I also checked any auto hibernate or auto shutdown in
power options and all is what was before. And again I repeat nothing
entered as a program those days any way. Nick
