How do i remove the StandBy option after clicking on
Start/Turn Off.... on windows XP. I only want the users
to be able to shutdown or restart.
I assume the computer, running on WinXP, has a modern display adapter with
its own driver installed. If this driver is removed, the computer will be
left with the very basic WinXP own display driver, which is not
sophisticated enough to support power management, i.e.no standby mode ---
[Standby] will be grayed out. So, one way to achieve your goal is to delete
the driver of your current display adapter.
[Start] > Rt. click [My Computer] > [Manage] > [Device Manager] (Lt. pane)>
Expand [Display adapters] > [Display Adapter] > [Driver](tab) > [Uninstall]
Of course, all the other benefits of a sophisticated adapter will go too!
There may be better ways, registry hacks perhaps, but this is the one I
know.
