Shutdown issue

Hi

Fresh install of XP Pro on a brand new Dell Latitude D500 (it
came with W2K but we've wiped it and used the Dell XP Pro disk to
install)

When its all installed... drivers updates etc .. every time a
logoff or shutdown is initiated in any profle a dialogue box pops
up saying "ending prog - sample" ... now I've searched the
registry, the hard drive, the startup folders, the taks list and
nowhere can I find a program called sample ... any ideas? I
wondered if it was referring to some sub part of a program ...
like possible the trackpad mouse controller sampling but thats
just conjecture ....

Hi Steve

If you have used the Dell CD - could it be a program they have installed without you being aware of it - perhaps in msconfig? Any sample.dll/vbs files on your hard disk that might be causing the problem?

thanks for responding Will ..

I've wiped it again ... and this time I'm going to reboot after
every device/update to ensure I can trace which if any caused the
prob ... ;o)

I think it is the symptom of virus--WindowsBlaster.

You must clean it.

Nothing was showing in the AV ... and its should be well behind
the corporate firewalls ..
