Shutdown does not shut off PC

I recently upgraded from 98SE to XP SP2. When I shutdown 98, the system
always turnned off. In XP, I get the message "It is now safe to turn of your
computer" (The LogoS.sys screen from 98) and have to turn of the power
manually.

I'm used to having my PC shut itself off when I shutdown. Any ideas on how
to get XP to do this?

Your PC is most likely not ACPI complient. If you go into device manager and
open the computer section at the top it will most likely say something like
strandard PC. It should say something similer to ACPI PC if it is complient.

Thanks all, but I've got it working now.

I brought up the display properties, selected "Screen Saver," clicked on the
button in the Energy Star area, and enabled the power saver from there. That
got things working again!
