Windows XP Home, when being shutdown causes a reboot after going through the
Shutdown process. There are no processes running at shutdown. Shut down
seems to work, black monitor screen, idle for about 10 secs, and machine
pops on and boots. Any suggestion on how to repair this problem would be
appreciated. Thank You!

Do you have 'Wake on Lan' or 'Wake on COM1/Modem' set in the BIOS? If
that isn't it, then maybe something is crashing when asked to shut down
(sound card driver, or whatever) .. have you turned off 'restart after
failure' in my computer, properties, advanced, startup & recovery?

Kelly has a fix at line 87, left "power off ... after shutdown".

Probably You have something that is crashing on being asked to close -
and the system's 'automatically restart' is cutting in. Turn this off:
in Control Panel - System - Advanced, click Settings in the Startup and
Recovery section. There uncheck 'automatically restart'. You may now
get a Blue screen failure instead, but at least will get some guidance
as to what is happening
