It's not a fix for your problem , but a way to shutdown your machine , at
the desktop press [Alt-F4] to bring up the shutdown menu.

Alternatively you can create a shortcut on the desktop to either re-start or
shutdown your machine , to do this on the desktop create a new shortcut with
the wizard and enter this text into the location of item box :

shutdown.exe -s -t 01 -c "The System Is Going For A Shutdown Now"

To reboot use :

shutdown.exe -r -t 01 -c "The System Is Going For A Reboot Now"

To find out more about the shutdown command , at the command prompt type
shutdown /?

I have both of these shortcuts on my desktop and I find it a lot better than
going through the start menu.

Hi

Try a System Restore back to a point before the problem started.
