I have a second hard drive that I use only for backup with Power Quest.
I usually only perform backups once a week which only takes a few minutes.
Is there a way to turn off/on spinning the second drive ( drive 1). I do
not need it for ordinary use. I have logical drives C: D: E: F: on drive 0
and G: H: on drive 1

Assuming you have a vacant 5 1/4" bay on your computer case...

Why don't you consider a mobile rack to house your second HD? This
simple-to-install device comes with a removable tray (caddy) which contains
the HD. The rack itself is affixed to the case similar to any 5 1/4" device,
e.g., an optical drive. The removable tray simply slides in or out of the
rack for an easy connect or disconnect of the drive. There are various
models on the market designed for either PATA or SATA HDs. They range in
price from about $15 (all plastic or plastic/aluminum) to about $50 for the
all-aluminum models. (The cheaper plastic models are just as effective in my
experience).

So when your second drive is not in use, it's simply disconnected by a
simple pull of the removable tray's handle. Or, most of the racks are
equipped with an ON-OFF keylock. So by turning the lock on or off the drive
is connected or disconnected from the system. It's simple and quite
effective. And I can virtually guarantee that once you begin working with a
removable drive, it won't be long before you get a second one to house your
primary HD. It's that good.

And as a side bonus...

Think how simple it will be to replace a defective HD should the need ever
arise.
