Show in groups, sort order

Windows XP, sp2

When files and folders are arranged by "showing in groups", the groups
are fine, but the items within the groups are arranged backwards, from Z
to A. If I mouse click on "Type" tab, the items within the groups are
then arranged from A to Z... but this is not remembered by Explorer, no
matter what I do, (CTR-close, file options, etc.).

I don't remember this in sp1.

Any workarounds?

Thanks,

Actually, the default sort order while "show in groups" and "sort by
type" is not Z to A, but rather when the files/folders were actually
created... is it possible to (a) show in groups, (b) sort by type, and
(c) within each type the items are sorted NOT by creation date, but from
A to Z?

Thanks

Go into a detail view, turn off grouping, get the sort order on name A-Z, then click show in groups, then click the 'Type' column header.

If the views aren't being saved, check the following:

1) Folder Options -> 'View' tab -> 'Advanced Settings:'
'Remember each folder's view settings' should be checked

2) Make sure no policy is in effect preventing views from being saved. Look in the registry here:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
for a value named "NoSaveSettings". It should not exist or if it does its value should be (0).

3) Are your saved settings maxed out? See Here:

4) Did you happen to click the 'Apply to All Folders' button when your sort order was screwy but you weren't aware of it yet? If so, get a folder set the way you like and use 'Apply to All Folders' (on the View tab of the Folder Options dialog) OR you can delete the saved view from the registry with out setting a new global default. Under this key:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Defaults]
delete the value named: "{F3364BA0-65B9-11CE-A9BA-00AA004AE837}"

Good Luck,
