This is a Windows setting. In an Explorer window (Windows Explorer, My
Computer, Computer) look around for some sort of menu item such as Tools |
Folder Options. On the View tab (or equivalent) there will be a check box
for "Hide extensions for knnown file types." Clear it and click OK/
