Show Desktop Icon not Working

The icon was missing so I followed the recommeded threads (ie Kelly's Korner
and others). I now have an icon in the taskbar(not the original style), but
when I click on it a pop up comes on stating Windows cannot open the file
(file: Show Desktop.scf). It then asks me to chose a web service to find
the appropriate program or select the program from a list.

Any suggestions? The Windows -D short cut is working.

Rick,

Type this command in Start/Run:

regsvr32 /i shell32

If that does not help, apply the .SCF association fix from www.dougknox.com

Much better - the link is now working! The generic icon is there rather than
the desktop icon - any idea how to change the icon back to the original?

First suggestion worked well. After re-booting the traditional icon returned.

Thanks.
