"Show common taswks in folders" problem

G

Guest

That is a folders option that places a column of common tasks on the left
side of the screen. As far as I can see, the feature is either on or off
for the entire computer all of the time. I like the feature, but there are
a very few folders where I would like to get rid of it. Is there any way to
opt for this feature on some folders, but not others?

Thanks,

You can toggle from the Tasks pane to the Tree View. Click on the Folders
button on the Toolbar.

To open those folders that you do not want to see Common Tasks, right click
the folder and select Explore.

Generally...
Explore opens folders with Folders pane on the left.

Open opens folders with common tasks showing on the left.

I guess I should have explained why I want to do this. :) The purpose is
to utilize the full screen area so that I don't have to use that slider bar
at the bottom to view the contents of the entire folder. An explorer tree
does the same thing as the Common Tasks--consumes some screen area even when
making the explorer bar as small as possible. If I use Windows Classic,
there's just barely enough room to show the entire folder contents without
the slider bar.

It may seem picayune to complain about such a minor issue, but this is my
mp3 folder and I access it dozens of time every day. I'm surprised at how
annoying it is to have to move the slider back and forth almost every time I
look for an mp3.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Try this.

Toggle to tree view.

Move your cursor to the dividing line between the panes until it turns into
a double headed arrow, left click and drag it to left as far as it will go.

Note that it will appear that way in all folders and if it is moved in any
folder, it's moved in all folders.

Not QUITE far enough. Close though. Will only move it to about an inch
from the edge. I think one centimeter would be just about enough, but it
won't go that far. Good idea, I must admit.

Thanks,

Norm, your monitor must be the same size as mine. ;-) An inch looks like
all you can get.

Well it's a 19" monitor, but an actual measurement shows it to be closer to
2cm from the edge.

I've decided to give up. The problem is that my Bach is on the left side of
the folder and my Wagner is on the right. Shifting back and forth was a
pain. So I copied the Wagner folder to a new folder called BaWagner. This
put is right under Bartok and I don't have to move the slider near as often.
:)

The main reason I've pursued this rather minor issue as far as I have is
because it would seem to be an easy modification. Apparently not.

Thanks again,

Norm

Norm, how about using Details view?
