Should I repair?

I get a message when some software tries to load that states:
COM object with CLSID {0006F03A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} is either not
valid or not registered.
This happened after I tried to install a new version of mcafee antivirus.
When using regedit, I get a message that states cannot access the registry.
I tried to import a backup of the registry and it would not let me.
It did allow me to install a new security suite and its working fine.
Also when I tried to update some software it said it could not access the
registry. Any ideas short of doing a repair?

Is the security suite stopping you from entering regedit?
I have seen them do that, but I have also seen virus/malware do it.
Can you enter regedit in safe mode?

No It stopped me before I put in a new security suite. I cannot make
changes in safe mode either.
