Problems with Registry

I tried to update my anti virus the other day. When I did the whole system
went caput! I got everything up and running, except for a program called
hypershare. When it tries to startup, I get a message that state:
COM object with CLSID {0006F03A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} is either not
valid or not registered.
Then another window pops up and it states
Hypershare was unable to update the registry properly to insert a schedule
checking server. Potential reasons for this can include:
-A corrupt or damaged registry
-Software which inhibits registry access/modifications
The specific message given was Object reference not set to an instance of an
object.
I did system restore to get back to what I had before the install, but I can
figure this out - any ideas?
When using regedit, I get a message that states cannot access the registry.
I tried to import and it would not let me.
It did allow me to install a new security suite and its working fine.
Thanks

No it was Mcafee. I updated it restarted the computer and I no longer had
any security software. I tried to manually start it but it said certain
things were missing. Also, in addition to hypershare not running, my pdf
files will not open if I just click on them. I can go into program files and
open adobe reader and then open a file, however, the file icon is the one
where the computer doesn't know what to open it with.
