Should I enable Windows XP's Personal Firewall behind a Microsoft proxy server? The proxy server is already set up as a firewall. I enabled the firewall options in the advanced TCP/IP options under the "Local Area Connection" interface and I seem to have no problems accessing other local resources on my home network, printing to my network printer, going out to the Internet, etc, after doing so. Thoughts??

Oh I see!

I want to be able to at least map a drive to this computer from another
machine on my internal network. How can I do this with the firewall
enabled?

Thanks!

No problem.
Lastly, are these settings stored in the registry, and if so, where?

Good question. I don't know. I'm sure the settings are stored in the
registry, but I've never bothered to search them out.

Hi,

Once you have file sharing setup and the other pc's can "see" the files on
it, you use their mapping function. However, with ICF enabled, you may need
to open the necessary ports manually. See this for specific instructions:

Internet Connection Firewall Can Prevent Browsing and File Share [Q298804]

However, is the ICF really necessary? If the proxy server is configured
correctly, it may not be.

That article, while suited for beginners, doesn't answer my question.

Hi,

The native firewall only blocks incoming traffic, it would not affect
your
ability to send outbound traffic.
