Should I be able to see pictures in Reading Pane? OL 2007

C

I have the "don't download pictures automatically" checked off, so I get the
info bar telling me "click here to download pictures"

Here are my questions:

Once I click on that, shouldn't I be able to see the pictures in the reading
pane? I don't see the images - I still need to double click on the email in
order to see the images

Sometimes (not always) once I click on the info bar, if I leave the message
in the inbox I no longer get the info. bar - is that normal?

Thanks in advance.

What do you see? Do you see blank areas or do you see empty boxes with red Xs
in the upper left corner?

Empty boxes, I do not see red x's - and I should point out that I have Show
Picture Placeholders unchecked.

In your registry, examine the value of
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\BlockHTTPImages . If it's "1",
change it to "0".

Brian,

I do not have the BlockHTTPImages option under Common - I did a search
through the registry and came up empty.

OK - did as you said.

So now I have under common BlockHTTPImages - inside it says name, default,
reg_sz, with a data value of 0.

Still nothing...I see blank squares.

Additional info. I thought I should mention:

In some of the emails I see SOME images but not others. In some, I see all
blank squares and no images. This is even AFTER I double click and
completely OPEN the email. So these issues are happening in both the reading
pane and after.

You added it incorrectly. You added it as a container, not a value. Locate
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common and select it. In the right-hand
pane, right-click and choose New>DWORD Value. A new value "New Value #1" will
appear in the pane and it will be selected. Type "BlockHTTPImages". That's
it. Click the registry and start Outlook. Test again.

OK - did that.

Still nothing. So frustrating (for you as well I'm sure).

And for all these emails I no longer get the info far asking me to download
the pictures - I guess Outlook thinks it's already downloaded them?

Brian,

I emptied the SecureTemp folder. No change. The clearing the forms
instructions was for OL 2003 I'll research to see if I find for OL 2007
(although for some reason I'm thinking it's not the issue?)

Just "because" I went into the editor - and SOMEHOW (and I am 100% certain I
didn't change it) the "Show Pictures Placeholders" was checked off.

I unchecked it - and now when I double click on the email I do see all the
pictures.

However - my original question still remains - should I be able to see the
images in the reading pane?

It does sound like they were embedded in the HTML and should appear in the
Reading Pane.

Is there any way for me to confirm they were embedded? Any way for me to tell?

Have a good weekend Brian.

Brian,

GOOD NEWS! I just (and I mean 2 seconds ago) fixed the issue, after spending
lots of time researching and checking and unchecking settings.

I am NOT sure what ended up being the fix, since I tried so many things.
But here's a few things I did:

-Went into Word 2007 and checked and then UNchecked the "Show pictures
placeholders" option. I kept doing this w/in Outlook but it kept appearing
checked off again.

-Even though I didn't have it enabled, I went into McAfee, enabled email
protection, and then disabled it again

-I UNchecked the "don't download pictures automatically" and then checked it
again

Immediately after I did that the pictures started to show in my preview pane
- and if they didn't, they did after I told OL to download them

I had done ALL of these things before - the only thing different was going
into Word...but that in itself did not fix it. I also kept restarting OL.
So I am not sure what did the trick, but I am so glad it's fixed.

I now also see the images in the reading pane for the RSS feeds.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your help!
