Shortcuts to Network via software

Lee

Hi there,

In Windows 2000, I could save/navigate to my Network folders from
any program by selecting the shortcuts I made to my network on the desktop.

In Windows XP, It see's the shortcuts as objects instead or not at all.

Does anyone know if there is a setting in XP that will allow me to navigate
from any program
to network folders via desktop shortcuts rather than having to go 'the long
way'? (the way I could in win2000)

Thank you,
Lee.

I've read this post at least three times trying to figure out what
you're saying. Since no one answered, I'll take a shot.

You can create shortcuts to network resources with XP. One way is to use
My Network Places to add a Network Place. Navigate to the resource you
want. After the new Network Place is created, right-click the icon for
it (you will still be in the Network Places folder) and drag it out to
the Desktop. When you let go of the right mouse button, choose "Create
a Shortcut here". You can also bypass My Network Places and just do a
search for network computers by name using an Explorer window. Once
you've found the computer and its resources, create a shortcut as
described above. If you have a lot of shortcuts to network resources,
you may want to make a new folder on the Desktop, calling it something
useful like "Network" and put the shortcuts in there. You can then
remove the My Network Places icon from the Desktop from the Display
applet if so desired.

Is that what you wanted to know? If not, please post back with a clearer
description of what you are trying to do.
