Shortcuts automatically added to My Network Places - how to disable?

I have a new laptop running XP Home, and I'm new to networking.

It appears that every time I access a shared folder on the other
computer, Windows adds a shortcut to it to My Network Places root.
I don't want it to do that. How can I disable the automatic
addition of shortcuts?
