Shortcut to .wav file

I have a .wav file that I would like to play on demand. I created a
shortcut to the file and assigned a key combination to that shortcut (CTRL +
ALT + L) but the combination does not play the .wav

Is there any way to get this to work?

You say that you assigned a keyboard shortcut, what did you do exactly?

My steps:

1. Right click the .wav and create a shortcut
2. Right click the shortcut that points at the .wav and select properties
3. In the 'Shortcut key:' field specify Ctrl + Alt + L
4. Click Apply
