Shortcut keys not working .... <grrrr>

I went to the archives earlier and found information on how to assign a
shortcut key to existing macros (via Alt-F8 and then options for the
selected macro). Perfect. Everything worked. For about 10 minutes. The
keys stopped working.

I had found this reference from Dave Peterson in a thread:

ctrl-l, ctrl-q, ctrl-t
are not used in Excel.

ctrl-e, ctrl-m, ctrl-j
are used in the VBE, but not excel.

But I ended up using "Ctrl+Shift+N" for "new" and "Ctrl+Shift+S" for "sort".
Since Excel had originally not allowed me to use ^T and ^Q, both mentioned
by Dave in his reference above and the ^+Shift did, that's why I changed.
But after they stopped working, I tried again to change the shortcut key
references and now get ^T and ^Q.

What could have caused the above to happen, does anyone know, where the
^+Shift combinations worked and then they didn't? I'd like to figure out an
easier shortcut key for each macro and would like to use the letters s and n
instead of t and q.

Althought the Shift Lock key did not affect the shortcut key in my test, it
really sounds like a shift lock key (let's say type of ) problem.

Ahh, that sounds reasonable. I'm on a new keyboard (they keep floating me
around here! <g>) and the cubicle was empty for some time. I haven't
noticed any peculiarities in the keyboard but since yesterday, that error
hasn't re-occurred. I played around with changing the keys and it didn't
seem to repeat the automated switchie thing whenever I changed the letter so
perhaps that might be the cause. Or yesterday the keyboard decided to get
stickie for a bit and didn't repeat that. I'll keep an eye on both this and
the behaviour of the shortcut key changes. It's such a neat trick I'd never
used before, really. What a marvel XL2K is, and I'm sure the later versions
even more. Even all these years later I keep finding out about new things
to be even more über fast! <g>
