Shortcut keys driving me crazy

Hi
Is there any way of turning off shortcut keys (the ones where you press
Shift or CTRL or Alt and then a letter on the keyboard) in all of Windows
programs?
I so often find that Word has gone off translating something or a window has
closed or the screen has split in two, all kinds of things that I really
don't wnat happening...!!
Of course, I could just type more accurately. But if I could just switch off
all those pesky shortcuts that a never use and don't want, that would be
great.
I would still like to keep Ctrl C/V/X for cutting and pasting... I use them
a lot. But nothing else... never touch them!
I suppose an alternative would be to get to know and love the shortcut
keys... so if there is no way of turning them off, perhaps someone could tell
me where I can find a list of them, and their meanings???
Thanks

VISTA: Got to windows help(F1 on most computers) type "key short", then
choose "using keyboard shortcuts" and then select "full list of keyboard
shortcuts".
XP: was a little more difficult, I learnt them all from the tip of the day
box and then later found them on the net as a text file.
