Shortcut Key I specified doesn't work

Following the help topic "Specifiy Shortcut Keys"
(ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\win_dos.chm::/windows_dos) in Windows help, I tried
specifying Ctrl+Alt+T to start a shortcut for Excel.exe. But when I press
Ctrl+Alt+T, nothing happens. I've also tried keys other than "T" and that
had no effect either. I've read the KB articles and verified that
Stickykeys was turned off, but still I can't get any shortcut keys to work.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I can get shortcut keys to work for other programs, e.g., Notepad.exe, but
not Excel.

Hi,

Don't know exactly what you did, but creating a shortcut within the
Office folder, or dragging/sending a shortcut from this folder to the
desktop with or without an assigned shortcut key combination won't
work. As Microsoft notes:
"Shortcut keys work only for shortcuts on the desktop or in the Start
menu hierarchy".

Maybe you did it right, but try the routine of creating a shortcut
directly on the desktop. Right-click on the desktop and click on New
=> Shortcut. Complete the wizard and when the shortcut is created,
right-click on it and click Properties. Type T in the Shortcut Key
box. Try it now.

Luck!

Thank you Claymore!! That worked!!!

I searched all over; I didn't find any note from Microsoft saying "Shortcut
keys work only for shortcuts on the desktop or in the Start menu hierarchy".
My shortcuts were in the quick launch toolbar. In fact, the help document I
referenced below, only says to go to My Computer, find the .exe or shortcut,
and view its properties.

When I moved it to the Start menu hierarchy, it worked like a charm. :)

Glad you got it to go. I too had struggled with this for ages. I found
the MS Article only by accident.
