shortcut assigned to symbol not holding

I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion on a problem we're having with a
user. The user is creating keyboard shortcuts for symbol and finding that
when he reboots Word, the shortcut is no longer working, and that he has to
redo the assignment. He's using Office 2003. the shortcuts are being saved
in the Normal template.

Thanks a lot Suzanne. We have only recently installed Adobe 7 on several
machines and your solution seems to have hit the nail on the head, it worked
perfectly for two test cases.
