my hard drive is in 2 partitions C & F. C is full but F has 35GB spare. How
can i move my programs folder from C to F without nullifying all the
shortcuts etc and also how can i get downloads to download to F not C. The
reason for this is i am trying to install SP2 but dont have enough space on
my drive. I have got rid of all the old files but need 320mb
Thanks

You can move the PF to your F drive, but it would be a PIA to refer each
shortcut (in its properties) to that new location. Depending on how many you
have that is, it may or may not take that long. One thing you could do is,
download and install BootIt NG from www.terabyteunlimited.com. It is a 30
trial, $35 to pruchase. Partition Magic can do this also, but not a trial,
and twice as expensive.

This program (BootIt NG) has the ability to resize partitions while there is
data on them. Of course like anything, something can go wrong, so back up
ANYTHING that is important to you in case something happens during the
process (e.g. power failure, clicking the wrong command, etc).

Try Disk CleanUp to remove Temporary Internet Files and the System
Restore option in the More Options tab of Disk CleanUp.

To move programmes use Add / Remove Programs in Start, Control Panel,
Add / Remove Programs to uninstall programmes. Create a Programs
Directory on your F drive and reinstall there.

Some other notes you may find useful.
Create a My Documents folder in another partition and copy ( not move )
the contents of My Documents to your new folder. Then delete the files
in your My Documents folder ( if you encounter problems deleting use
Shift + Delete to bypass the Recycle Bin ). You will also need to
change Default File locations in the Microsoft Office programmes you
use. For Word go to Tools, Options, File Locations, highlight Documents,
click on Modify and change file path. For Excel go to Tools, Options,
General and change default file path.

For Temporary Internet Files select Start, Control Panel, Internet
Options, Temporary Internet Files. Settings, Move Folder.

To move the Outlook Express Store Folder select in Outlook Express
Tools, Options, Maintenance, Store Folder, Change.
