shodow glitch when running 2003 file on 2007

I have found an issue with ppt 2003 files that I run on my PC with 2007. If
a text element is to be built onto the screen using custom animation, and
that text has a shadow of any kind, the shadow will appear on the slide
immediately, then when the text is cued it appears on top of it. The text
does not appear in the shadow controls to have a shadow, but there it is.

If I get text with no shadow from a 2003 file, I can add any sort of shadow
and it will animate with the text as expected.

What's going on here?

I believe this is caused when the shadow is applied to the shape instead of
