Shockwave/Flashplayer problem with Internet Explorer

I installed shockwave and flash fromthe Macromedia site and was able
to play stored .swf files for a day.

Retrying to play the same file a day later resulted in an error where
IE closed.

Macromedia teck support has been very responsive, but no solution has
worked. I have removed/reinstalled numerous times trying shockwave
version 7(8?), 10, and 10 Beta. The result is the same.

The Macromedia site claims that the programs are installed since their
site will play the test files.

For some reason I cannnot play files on my hard drive.

Anyone have an answer?
