A coworker of mine told me that there is a way to share
RAM over a home network. Let em explain. I have a slow
laptop, with only 96 MB of RAM. I have a PC that has 512
MB of RAM. They are networked in my house. How do I allow
my laptop to use the RAM of the PC? I fthat is not
possible, is there a way that I could allow my laptop to
use virtual memory on the PC, which has a 120 GB hard
drive?

Jeremy, sharing RAM is loony tunes but you can share disk over your network.
You can't share it as virtual memory but you can move files back and forth.
It is not so easy to do and there are security issues if you're using wifi
(there are solutions). If you want to do it then I suggest that you drop
the RAM part and post on this thread a request for someone to explain how to
share files. Describe your network and your OSes, etc. You'll get relies
that point you to cookbook solutions.

Many people interpret hard drive space as memory. If files are only accessed
while connected on the LAN move them to the bigger PC and defrag the hard
drive. This would help a little. Even virtual memory on the local drive
causes your computer to run slow. I.E. If you increased your virtual memory
from say 32Mb to 96Mb you would be able to open more files before you got an
out of memory error but you may as well be making your lunch while the
computer processes them. You would be better off increasing the RAM. Also a
bigger hard drive is generally faster and you would also notice a speed
increase especially if the hard drive is being used quite a lot.
