I have a Domain with
1- DC Running Windows Server 2003
1- DHCP Server running Windows 2000 Advanced Server
2- XP Clients

I Recently one of my XP Clients got infected with a virus which had my own
files on it... The Virus was removed and I scanned the computer and no other
files were infected I backed up my Files and reformatted the machine. I gave
the machine the same name during Windows Setup. The computer can connect to
the shared folders on the Server, but I cannot access my files on the
computer because it sais "There is a duplicate computer name on the
network....". What should I do?

How about considering changing the name to something different than the first
name? We are suppose to be able to change our computer name at any time we
choose without any adverse affects on our profiles due to our profiles use of
different user names than the name of the machine. The name of the machine is
used just to connect to the network. So, changing the name to a different one
should fix this problem. Just make sure to not use the old name in the future.
