Sharing printer

I have a laptop running Vista Home Premium and PC runnning XP. Want to print
from laptop (printer connected to PC), I have gone through the Network and
Sharing Center, both computers named the same and same workgroup name. Both
computers allowing printer/files, etc. sharing again through the Network and
Sharing Center. Have gone to both computers and enable sharing under the
Windows firewall protection. I have run the LLTD Responder on the PC running
XP. On the laptop, the printer is listed and shows "ready". When I try to
print all I get in the printer status box is "error - printing". The laptop
is wireless, the PC connected to a modem. Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming you have set up file/printer sharing correctly and have tested
by transferring a file both ways, did you install the printer drivers on
the laptop? First make sure you've shared the printer on the desktop
machine. Then go to the printer mftr.'s website and download Vista
drivers onto the laptop. Install the drivers on the laptop and the
printer should be found during the installation routine. If not, use the
Add Printer Wizard.

caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall; or 2) inadvertently running two
firewalls such as the built-in Windows Firewall and a third-party
firewall; and/or 3) not having identical user accounts and passwords on
all Workgroup machines; 4) trying to create shares where the operating
system does not permit it.

I managed to get my network exactly as the OP wants to do and I didn't
download the Vista drivers.

Maybe they are included in Vista.

It depends on the printer. Drivers included in Vista are basic drivers
supplied by the hardware mftr. It is best practice to check to see if
your hardware (printer in the OP's case) is supported in Vista and if
drivers are available from the mftr.'s website to use those instead.

OK, I now went in and manually installed the printer and updated all drivers
(by hooking up the USB and installing). Now when I try to print everything
goes into queue and the only way I can get it out is by cancelling spooling.
There are no firewalls blocking, everything says to allow printing/share
printer, etc. Any further ideas???

Does file sharing work? You might want to post in the printing
newsgroup, remembering to include make/model of the printer.
