Sharing network connection with linux

I have 2 computers one running windows 2k and another linux. I have cable
internet (maybe dsl in the future) and I want both computers to use this
connection. The only other piece of hardware I have available is hub. I
don't have any routers or anything else that has dhcp server in it. Windows
machine has 2 LAN ports so I was thinking of maybe connecting modem to one
LAN port on windows machine and then connecting second LAN port on first
machine to LAN port on second machine. The 2 questions I have is:
1. Is this the correct way to approach this problem in my situation
2. If yes, what do i do next after I connected 2 computers together. Is the
connection sharing thing available on windows is what i need to use.?

If you use a router on your network then all computers will be able to
access the internet without much problems however if you have a modem or dsl
/ cable connection, you will need to configure the windows 2000 box for
internet connection sharing or equivalant on linux.

Once you have set up the windows 2000 computer and its connected, linux
should automatically work if its able to successfully ping the server or
vice versa.
