Sharing Folders

In XP I could right click on a folder, select "Share" and follow my nose
through the panels to allow the folder to be shared over the network. Doing
the same thing under Vista seems to allow me to specify other accounts on
the machine to share the folder with, but how do I share it across the
network?

If I follow the sharing prompts, and enter the name of my other computer on
the network, then Vista just says it can't locate that account name. The
Vista help system says one can share across the network, but then proceeds
to give instructions on how to share between accounts instead.

Presumably I'm missing something here - it's my first day with Vista.

Sorry - I figured it out. One way anyhow. Apparently one must create an
account on the Vista machine, and then let the XP machine log into that
account remotely? Seems to work.

Having set up a separate account to enable remote access with password
control (an improvement from XP), I now find that Vista badgers me every
time I reboot to select which account I want to use. Is there some way to
tell Vista to only ever log on with the Admin account by default?

Also, do you know how secure the account password is? For example, every
time I leave the house with my XP laptop I have to remember to disable
sharing or everyone at a public WiFi can snoop the files. With Vista
requiring someone to know the esoteric account name and password I set, it
seems I wouldn't have to disable the sharing in public anymore. But how
strong is that layer of security? Can people easily get past that login if
they know what they're doing?

Thanks David. I'll have to spend some time perusing that web site.
