Sharing Folders Across Network

B

bob

I have a simple home network with 2 computers, both
running XP Professional and both hooked into a router.
Both computers belong to the same WORKGROUP and the IP
address is assigned by the router.

Computer A can ping computer B but B cannot ping A.

Even though I've shared folders on both computers,
neither one can "see" the folder from the other computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hi Bob,

Make sure your network configuration is correct on both computers --
specially subnet mask (can you double check?).
Do you have personal firewall turned on this PCs? This will prevent them
from ICMP reply (ping) or having access to shared folders. I am not saying
that you should turn off your personal firewall. Far from it. If the
firewall is the problem you just have to configure it in a manner that the
other PC on the local network is trusted...

I hope this helps you out...
