Computers Cannot Talk to Each Other

Two computers both running XP Prof. connected to Belkin wireless router all
on 192.168.3.0 subnet. File & Printer Sharing enabled and MS Firewall turned
off on both machines.

I cannot access shared folders/files between machines. I cannot even ping
between machines. Belkin router does not have restrictions set as far as I
can tell.

The router would not interfere with access between computers on the same
network. Be sure to try and ping by IP address and not just name. If that
does not help try booting into Safe Mode with networking for each computer
to see if that makes a difference. If it does you have a startup
application/service that is blocking access such as some sort of internet
protection software. You can use the command netsh firewall show state to
verify that the Windows Firewall is disabled. The example below shows that
it is enabled on my computer under operational mode. --- Steve

D:\Documents and Settings\Steve>netsh firewall show state

Firewall status:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Profile = Standard
Operational mode = Enable
Exception mode = Enable
Multicast/broadcast response mode = Enable
Notification mode = Enable
Group policy version = None
Remote admin mode = Disable

Ports currently open on all network interfaces:

137 UDP IPv4 (null)
139 TCP IPv4 (null)
138 UDP IPv4 (null)
3389 TCP IPv4 (null)

Can you even ping the same machine ?? Get the IP of the machine
you are one and try pinging that. If that works, try pinging the
router.
This sounds like one of those things that when you finally find it, you
feel like hitting your head on the terminal (been there - done that)
